Who Should Attend

This training course is designed for anyone in a work environment as this qualification raises learners’ awareness of the concept of risk assessment. As this training is specific to training in the topic of Manual Handling it is also designed to train the trainer in relaying to delegates the methods required to carry out manual handling assessments in the workplace along with familiarisation with the associated regulations and good working practices.

Aim

The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace.

It is a practical qualification suitable for new and experienced trainers (external and internal) who wish to improve their classroom skills and obtain a training qualification which will also enable them to deliver regulated qualifications.

This qualification provides a good basis to help learners get a ‘foot first’ into training. The focus is on the effective delivery of training, allowing learners to develop planning, preparation, and delivery skills, including delivery methods, questioning techniques and time management.It’s mainly aimed at those who will use pre-prepared training materials to deliver training within the workplace, as opposed to a training qualification that is more focused on procedures, protocol and regulatory requirements, such as education and training.

This course will also incorporate the following :

To provide delegates with a thorough understanding of how to complete a manual handling risk assessment to minimise the risk of injury to operatives when carrying out manual handling activities by increasing awareness of potential manual handling hazards in the workplace and their outcomes.

Content

The content for the delivering training sections of this course are as follows :

On completion of this course delegates will:

• Be able to contribute both to the maintenance of a safe work environment and to the process of formal risk assessment

• Understand the main causes of accidents and ill health in the workplace, and their impacts

• Understand the legal requirements for risk assessment

• Understand the principles of risk assessment, including:

• Hazards, risks, and control measures

• The five steps of risk assessment

• The hierarchy of control

• Risk assessment review and record keeping.

• Health & Safety at Work Act

• Manual Handling Operations Regulations

• Accident statistics and Manual Handling issues in the UK

• The functions of the spine and muscular system

• Typical Manual Handling injuries in the workplace

• Hazard identification and assessment of correct handling techniques

• Manual Handling Risk Assessment process

• Manual Handling Assessment chart tool

• Available guidance & information

Training Methods

Classroom based tutorials and demonstrations along with group participation including completing sample manual handling risk assessments,

supplemented with video and classroom-based tutorials.

For the delivering training sections of the course the delegates will be assessed by a multi - choice examination

Delegates attending this course should be 18+ years and physically and mentally fit to withstand the rigours of training
